Exploring The Black Hills

We’re the Storms, a family of five who sold our home, packed up our life, and hit the road to chase freedom and adventure. After building our online businesses, we realized the real dream wasn’t more stuff, it was more living.
Now we travel full time, exploring national parks, small towns, and hidden gems across the world while showing that freedom, family, and adventure are always worth it.
Black Hills Adventure 2022
Our First Camper Trip Filled
With Dusty Trails, Family Fun, &Unforgettable Views
Back in 2022 we packed up our camper, rounded up the kids, and hit the road for one of our favorite family trips yet to the Black Hills of South Dakota. This trip was extra special because it was our very first time camping in the Black Hills and we went with friends which made it even better.
We stayed at Recreational Springs Resort in Lead and it couldn’t have been a more perfect spot. The campground sits right in the heart of the Black Hills surrounded by tall pines and incredible trail access. The best part was that they offered ATV and side by side rentals right on the property so we didn’t even have to go far to start the fun. Our friends brought their own machines and we rented one for the weekend. It was a little spendy but honestly so worth it for the memories and the laughs that followed.

Spearfish & Deadwood
We spent two full days riding the trails, exploring the mountain paths, and soaking in those wide open views. The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever to bounce along the dusty roads with their helmets on and smiles from ear to ear. It was so dusty when we went that by the end of each day we looked like we had been playing in the dirt all day, but that’s what makes it fun. Two days was the perfect amount for the ages of our kids and they absolutely loved it.
After our trail adventures we spent a slower day exploring some of our favorite nearby towns like Spearfish, Lead, and our personal favorite, Deadwood. Deadwood has this old west charm that never gets old. We spent hours walking around, grabbing ice cream, and letting the kids play in the fountain downtown. They loved it so much and we could have stayed there all day just watching them play.
Big Adventures for The Littles
We also stopped at Rushmore Mountain Coaster which was a huge hit with all three of our girls. The coaster was so much fun but their favorite part might have been the huge climbing park and mini golf area right next to it. It was the perfect family spot with a mix of adventure and play that kept everyone happy.
Looking back on this trip it feels like one of those golden memories that will always stand out. Good friends, beautiful weather, a little dust, and a whole lot of joy. It reminded us exactly why we fell in love with traveling and camping in the first place.
