The Decision To Sell Our Century Old Home

If you’ve ever dreamed of selling everything, packing up your life, and hitting the open road, this one’s for you.
This is the story of how we finally decided to sell our house and start traveling full time in our RV. It’s been two years in the making, and this journey has been all about faith, surrender, and freedom.
The Dream That Kept Tugging at Us
For two years, we talked about doing this. Traveling full time as a family. Living life on our own terms. Chasing sunsets instead of schedules.
We almost did it last year, but life had other plans. Our extended families were dealing with serious health issues, and we knew our place was at home. That season wasn’t easy. I was struggling with depression, burnout, and the weight of feeling stuck. Everything felt misaligned, and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t recognize myself.
But deep down, that dream to hit the road never went away. It simply waited for the right moment.

The Turning Point
After a long winter and a slow spring, something inside me shifted. I woke up one morning and realized I was done with the version of life we were living. I craved peace, purpose, and space to breathe again.
We had looked at hundreds of RVs and none of them felt right. Then one random day, we drove up to Sioux Falls to see a used Cyclone model. It wasn’t the one, but as fate would have it, the salesman mentioned a new camper that had just arrived.
The second we stepped inside, it felt like home.
It was surreal. Something clicked, and we both knew that this was it. This was the beginning of everything we had been talking about for years.
Preparing to Sell Our Home
The next big step was getting our home ready to sell. Our beautiful family home that we truly thought would be our forever home.
We started small, one room at a time. I won’t sugarcoat it. It was emotional. Every drawer, closet, and cabinet held memories. But with every box we packed, I felt lighter. We donated, sold, and stored the things that mattered most.
Here’s what worked best for us and what I’d recommend if you’re preparing to go full time.
Where to Begin When Preparing
for Full Time Travel
1. Start with one room at a time. Focused progress beats overwhelm every time.
2. Declutter first, organize second. Don’t waste time organizing things you won’t take with you.
3. Separate items into keep, store, and donate. Be honest with yourself about what you truly need.
4. Digitize important documents and memories. You’ll thank yourself later.
5. Create a timeline and mini goals. For us, that goal was having the house ready by the Fourth of July.
6. Do a trial run in your camper. Live in it for a few weeks and see what adjustments you need to make before committing full time.
7. Make peace with letting go. Every item you release makes room for something new like freedom, adventure, and clarity.

Taking the Leap
By mid summer, we started moving essentials into our camper little by little. We told ourselves we’d try it out and see how it felt to live in it full time. Spoiler alert, we loved it.
At first, we weren’t sure if we’d sell our home or rent it out as an Airbnb. But as time went on, we realized that if we truly wanted freedom, the kind that lets you wake up anywhere, selling made the most sense.
On September 19, our home officially hit the market.
By September 22, we had accepted an offer.
That moment felt surreal and sacred.
Once we made the decision, everything began to fall into place. It was the kind of alignment that happens only when you finally say yes to what’s meant for you.
Trusting God’s Plan
When we bought our home, I called it our forever home. But God had other plans.
That house was where we raised our babies, celebrated birthdays, and built a life that will always mean the world to me. But sometimes, the forever chapters aren’t meant to last forever. They’re meant to prepare you for what comes next.
Letting go wasn’t easy, but it felt right. This time, it wasn’t about chasing comfort. It was about stepping fully into what’s possible.
We’re choosing faith over fear, adventure over comfort, and presence over possessions.

The Home That Built Our Dreams
Before we could move forward, we had to say goodbye to the place that shaped so many beautiful memories.
Our home has always been special. It’s more than a house.
It’s over a century old and filled with the kind of charm you can’t replicate.
The sunlight pours through the windows in a way that makes every morning feel gentle and warm.
The atmosphere wraps around you like a hug. It’s cozy, welcoming, and full of love.
We hosted holidays here, celebrated birthdays, laughed until our sides hurt, and watched our girls grow up within these walls.
Every corner tells a story.
The sound of tiny feet running up the stairs, family dinners filled with chatter, quiet nights together in the living room watching the dance routines our girls created, all of it lives in my heart. Forever and always.
This home was a dream come true.
I remember the first time I walked through the front door.
It instantly felt like home, like I had manifested the exact space I had always imagined for our family.
Since that moment, I’ve carried deep gratitude for being able to live in such a beautiful, love-filled place.
Letting go of this home wasn’t easy.
But sometimes the places that hold the most love are the ones that prepare you for what’s next.
The Start of Our Next Chapter
Now that we’re traveling full time as a family, I can honestly say this is the freest we’ve ever felt.
Every day is different, but every day is ours.
If you’ve been feeling that same pull, that whisper to do something bold, to simplify, or to step into a new season, this is your sign.
It’s okay to start small.
It’s okay to feel scared.
And it’s okay if your forever home was just the beginning of something even bigger.
Because when you finally take that leap, you realize something powerful.
You were never losing anything.
You were simply making space for everything that was waiting for you.
